The Akademisches Kunstmuseum in Bonn, Germany, is one of the oldest museums in the city, founded in 1818 to house the University of Bonn's distinguished collection of ancient sculpture. Housed in a neoclassical building designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Hermann Friedrich Waesemann (constructed 1823–1830) and located near the Electoral Palace at the southern end of the Hofgarten, the museum contains more than 2,700 plaster casts of Greek and Roman statues and reliefs alongside over 25,000 original antiquities. It was the first institution of its kind to establish a dedicated, centralized collection of casts for university instruction, pioneering a model that would influence art education across Europe. Under its founding director Friedrich Gottlieb Welcker and his successors, the museum became home to one of the world's largest assemblies of ancient sculptural casts. The building itself is recognized as an architectural heritage monument in North Rhine-Westphalia.
