The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral stands in the Kanavinsky district of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, on the former grounds of the Nizhny Novgorod Fair. Construction began in 1868 and took thirteen years, with the cathedral solemnly consecrated on July 20, 1881, in the presence of Emperor Alexander III, his wife Maria Feodorovna, and Tsarevich Nicholas. Rising 87 meters high, the cathedral blends Russian Revival and Romanesque Revival architectural styles. It has become one of the city's unofficial symbols, alongside the Kremlin's Dmitrovskaya Tower, the Chkalov staircase, and the fair itself. Today, it remains a federal cultural heritage site in Russia.
