Opened on September 11, 1926, at Pier 9 of Honolulu Harbor, the Aloha Tower is a retired lighthouse and observation tower that stands as one of Hawaii's most iconic landmarks. Built at a cost of $160,000, the 10-story structure rises 184 feet (56 meters) and was designed in the Hawaiian Gothic architectural style. For four decades following its completion, it remained the tallest structure in the state. Like the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Aloha Tower served as a welcoming beacon for hundreds of thousands of immigrants arriving in Honolulu, continuing its role as a guiding light for vessels entering the harbor. The tower is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
