A historic factory complex in Waltham, Massachusetts, the American Watch Tool Company occupies four buildings at 169 Elm Street and exemplifies Italianate industrial architecture of the late nineteenth century. Founded in 1877 as an offshoot of the American Watch Company, the facility specialized in manufacturing watchmaking tools until 1904. The multi-building layout documents the evolution of the business over its operational period. The complex was recognized and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
