Designed by the renowned American architect Henry Hobson Richardson and completed in 1883, the Ames Free Library stands at 53 Main Street in Easton, Massachusetts, immediately adjacent to Richardson's Oakes Ames Memorial Hall. The public library has earned recognition in the twenty-first century, winning the Library Journal's Best Small Library in America award in 2016—an honor established by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2005 to recognize outstanding libraries serving communities under 25,000 residents. The building is listed as a contributing property on the National Register of Historic Places.
