The Armenian Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary in Lviv's Old Town stands as one of Europe's finest examples of Armenian architecture. Built beginning in 1301 and constructed of dimension stone, the cathedral was designed by Doring and served as both monastery and cathedral. Located north of the market square, it functioned as the seat of the Armenian Catholic Archeparchy of Lviv until 1945, when its ecclesiastical role shifted; since 2000 it has served as the cathedral of the Armenian Diocese of Ukraine, continuing its role as a spiritual and architectural landmark in the city.
