The Assumption of Mary Cathedral in Hiroshima, also known as the Memorial Cathedral of World Peace, is a Catholic cathedral designed by Togo Murano and completed in 1954. Built as a tribute to the victims of the atomic bombing, the cathedral was initiated by Father Enomiya-Lassalle, who himself survived the explosion, with construction beginning in 1950. The building exemplifies Art Nouveau architecture and serves as the principal church of the Diocese of Hiroshima, established in 1959. The cathedral received a papal visit from Pope John Paul II in February 1981 and was designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 2006.
