Spanning 1,000 acres along the east shore of the Hudson River in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, Bard College's campus comprises more than 70 buildings situated within the Hudson River Historic District, a National Historic Landmark. The campus, which offers views of the Catskill Mountains, preserves numerous pre-1950 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places and reflects varied architectural styles, with particular influence from Collegiate Gothic and Postmodern design. During a late twentieth-century building expansion, the college commissioned signature buildings from prominent architects including Robert Venturi, Frank Gehry, and the earlier contributions of Richard Upjohn and Perkins & Will, creating an ensemble that blends historic preservation with contemporary architectural innovation.
