Belmont House is a neo-classical Georgian country house built in 1775 on the island of Unst, the northernmost of the Shetland Islands. Constructed by local landowner Thomas Mouat of Garth, the Palladian-influenced mansion has been described as "possibly the most ambitious, least-altered classical mansion in the Northern Isles." The estate fell into disrepair but underwent comprehensive restoration between 1996 and 2010 through community and local conservation efforts. Now a category A listed building, Belmont House and its grounds—recognized on Scotland's Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes—stand as a remarkable example of ambitious neoclassical architecture in Britain's far north.
