Burj Al Alam (meaning "World Tower") was a proposed 108-story, 510-meter hyperboloid skyscraper designed by Nikken Sekkei in high-tech style for Dubai's Business Bay, evolved from an earlier 101-storey scheme called "Fortune 101" intended for Dubai Marina. The crystal flower–shaped tower was conceived to contain 74 office floors, ground-level retail, and a 27-floor hotel and serviced apartments section featuring the world's highest hotel rooms, alongside a six-storey crown with Turkish bath, sky garden, and club facilities. Ground broke in November 2006 with a targeted 2009 completion, but investor payment delays stemming from the Great Recession halted construction after foundation piling in 2009. The project was formally suspended in 2010, and by 2013 officially cancelled, with the excavated foundation pit eventually filled and levelled. As of 2025, the Fortune Group retained the property, with Binghatti Skyrise beginning construction anew in February 2025.
