Located in Burnet, Texas, the Burnet County Courthouse is a Moderne-style building completed on August 1, 1937, at a cost of approximately $135,000. Designed by architect Lewis Milton Wirtz of Columbus, it was constructed in part with Works Progress Administration funds, following the county's growing need for larger office space and secure record storage. The building replaced a limestone courthouse erected in 1875 after an earlier frame structure burned in 1874. The project came to fruition after the WPA allocated $74,000 for construction in November 1935, with Burnet County matching federal funds to complete the work. Today it stands on the National Register of Historic Places as the third and most enduring courthouse to serve the county.
