Built in 1869 by architect Elbridge Boyden, the Cambridge Street School in Worcester, Massachusetts exemplifies the Romanesque Revival, Gothic Revival, and Second Empire styles characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century institutional architecture. Located at 510 Cambridge Street, the building is notable as the only surviving unaltered Second Empire school building in Worcester. Substantially enlarged twice during its operational years, it served the city's public school students until 1976. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and now functions as a transitional housing facility for homeless families.
