Perched at the end of Newport's historic Ocean Drive on Narragansett Bay, Castle Hill Lighthouse stands as an active navigation aid marking the East Passage between Conanicut and Aquidneck Islands. Designed by Henry Hobson Richardson and completed in 1890, this 10-meter granite tower exemplifies the architect's distinctive Romanesque Revival aesthetic. Though the surrounding property belongs to the nearby Castle Hill Inn, the United States Coast Guard maintains ownership and operation of the lighthouse itself. Beyond its maritime function, the structure has evolved into an iconic symbol of Newport, drawing visitors for photography and special occasions.
