Five Mile Point Light, also known as Old New Haven Harbor Lighthouse, stands at the entrance to New Haven Harbor in Connecticut, about five miles from Downtown New Haven. Built in 1847 by Marcus Bassett, the 80-foot octagonal tower replaced an earlier 1805 wooden lighthouse and was constructed from East Haven brownstone. Originally equipped with 12 lamps and reflectors, it received a fourth-order Fresnel lens in 1855 and a fog bell in the 1860s before being deactivated in 1877 upon completion of the nearby Southwest Ledge Light. Now situated within Lighthouse Point Park alongside its keeper's house, the lighthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
