The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita, Kansas serves as the seat of the Diocese of Wichita. Designed by Emmanuel Louis Masqueray in Renaissance Revival style, this Bedford stone cathedral was begun in 1906 and consecrated on September 19, 1912, in a ceremony led by Cardinal James Gibbons of Baltimore before thirty other bishops. The imposing structure measures 169 feet in length and 100 feet across the transepts, with a dome rising 135 feet from the ground. Built at a cost of $500,000, the cathedral received bronze doors crafted by the Italian artisans of Domus Dei, which were installed in 1997.
