Built in 1894, the Charles G. Dawes House is a Chateauesque lakefront mansion located at 225 Greenwood Street in Evanston, Illinois. The house became the residence of Charles Gates Dawes from 1909 until his death in 1951. Dawes was a prominent statesman who served as U.S. Vice President under Calvin Coolidge, earned the 1925 Nobel Peace Prize for devising a plan to address Germany's post–World War I reparations burden, and served as a general during the war and later as United States Ambassador to Great Britain. Now a National Historic Landmark owned by the Evanston History Center, the mansion operates as a house museum open to the public for tours.
