Find out more
Located about 50 kilometres north-northeast of Paris in Chantilly, Oise, the Château de Chantilly comprises two attached structures: the Petit Château, built around 1560 for Anne de Montmorency in French Renaissance style, and the Grand Château, which was destroyed during the French Revolution and reconstructed in the 1870s under architects including Honoré Daumet and Jean Bullant. Now owned by the Institut de France—to which it was bequeathed by Henri d'Orléans, Duke of Aumale—the château was designated a historic monument in 1988 and opens to the public. Within its walls, the Musée Condé showcases one of France's finest art collections, specializing in French paintings and illuminated manuscripts from the 15th and 16th centuries.
