Perched on a distinctive prominence in the northern Vosges, the Château de Lichtenberg crowns the village of Lichtenberg in the Bas-Rhin department of Alsace. First documented in 1206, the castle served as the principal seat of the Counts of Hanau-Lichtenberg for centuries. During the Franco-Prussian War in 1870, Württemberg artillery bombardment left the structure in ruins, a state it endured for over a century. Comprehensive restoration undertaken in the 1990s returned the castle to public accessibility, allowing visitors to explore this significant medieval monument and its strategic Alpine setting.
