Lichtenstein Castle is a privately owned Gothic Revival château in the Swabian Jura of Baden-Württemberg, southern Germany, overlooking the Echaz valley near Honau. Designed by Carl Alexander Heideloff and built between 1840 and 1842, this historicist structure was inspired by Wilhelm Hauff's 1826 novel of the same name—itself a romantic tale set against the region's medieval past. The castle's name evokes "shining stone" or "bright stone," while nearby ruins of an older medieval fortress lie a few hundred meters distant, underscoring the site's layered history. Now a Kulturdenkmal (heritage monument), the castle exemplifies nineteenth-century Romantic nostalgia for the Gothic aesthetic.
