Château Mouton Rothschild is a wine estate in Pauillac, in the Médoc region roughly 50 kilometers northwest of Bordeaux. Originally called Château Brane-Mouton, the property was renamed by Nathaniel de Rothschild in 1853 and became known as Château Mouton Rothschild. A significant innovation came in the 1920s when the estate began bottling its harvest on-site rather than sending wine to merchants for bottling elsewhere—a practice that distinguished it among Bordeaux producers. The Rothschild family branch that owns Mouton Rothschild holds membership in Primum Familiae Vini.
