The Chkalov Stairs is a monumental flight of steps in central Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, connecting Minin and Pozharsky Square with the Upper and Lower Volga embankments. Designed by architects Alexander Yakovlev, Lev Rudnev, and Vladimir Munz and completed in 1943, it exemplifies Stalinist architecture. The longest staircase in Russia, it rises in a figure-eight configuration with 442 steps on the right side to the top (560 total when both sides are counted). The stairs begin near a monument to Chkalov at the St. George's Tower of the Kremlin and feature two observation platforms at the intersections of its side slopes. A monument to the boat "Hero" stands at the base on the Lower Volga embankment. The structure holds the status of a regional cultural heritage site in Russia.
