The Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, located at 105 Pitt Street on Manhattan's Lower East Side, is a Byzantine Revival structure completed in 1868 and designed by Henry Engelbert. Built to serve the predominantly German immigrant community of Kleindeutschland, the church remains a Roman Catholic parish within the Archdiocese of New York, its distinctive Byzantine Revival style reflecting the architectural ambitions of mid-nineteenth-century New York's religious institutions.
