The Church of the Holy Apostles in Constantinople (modern Istanbul) was a Byzantine Eastern Orthodox church that ranked second only to the Hagia Sophia in size and importance among the capital's great churches. Though the first structure dates to the fourth century, successive emperors expanded and enhanced the building over time. Following the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople in 1453, it served briefly as the seat of the Ecumenical Patriarch before falling into disrepair. By 1456, the patriarchate had relocated to the Theotokos Pammakaristos Church, and in 1461, the Ottoman authorities demolished the deteriorating structure to construct the Fatih Mosque in its place.
