The Great Palace of Constantinople, also called the Sacred Palace, was the monumental imperial Byzantine residence complex situated at the southeastern tip of the peninsula now within Istanbul's Fatih district. Serving as the primary home of Eastern Roman emperors and the hub of imperial administration for more than 690 years, it dominated Byzantine political and ceremonial life until 1081. Built in the Byzantine architectural style, the sprawling palace once housed the machinery of empire, though only scattered foundations and fragmentary remains survive today, preserving faint traces of its former grandeur.
