The Monastery of Jesus in Setúbal, Portugal, is one of the earliest examples of Manueline architecture, the Portuguese interpretation of late Gothic style. Built beginning in 1401 and designed by Diogo de Boitaca, the monastery originally housed a community of Poor Clare nuns. The complex includes cloisters that now contain a museum dedicated to the monastery's history. Designated a National Monument of Portugal, the site was identified by the pan-European heritage organization Europa Nostra in 2013 as one of Europe's seven most endangered monuments, underscoring its historical significance and conservation challenges.
