Clem's Opera House, located at Main and Post Streets in Gresham, Nebraska, is a modest but architecturally distinctive venue built around 1891 by local merchants A. L. Clem and Noah Clem alongside Dr. W. N. Hynton. The two-story brick structure features a flat roof concealed by an elaborate cornice, pressed metal window decorations, and a stone ledge marking the first story. Measuring approximately 56 feet deep and 23 feet wide, the intimate theatre contains a wooden proscenium arch 12 feet wide and 9 feet tall, with a 12-foot-deep stage and minimal backstage facilities consisting only of small wing spaces. When constructed, it was Gresham's only two-story brick building. Beyond theatrical performances, it served as a multipurpose community center hosting lectures, films, box socials, high-school commencements, farmers' institutes, and political meetings. The building was recognized as a National Register of Historic Places listing in 1988 for its significance to social history, the performing arts, and entertainment and recreation.
