Mitchell Opera House, a two-story brick structure erected in 1905–1906 in Mitchell, Indiana, exemplifies early twentieth-century civic multipurpose design. Measuring 45 feet wide and 85 feet deep, the building features a one-story projecting entry, a gable roof, and a gambrel roof over the stage area at its rear. Originally constructed as a theater, it served that function until 1927, after which it was adapted as city hall from 1952 to 1979. The building was recognized by listing in the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.
