The IOOF Opera House in Hampton, Nebraska is a two-story commercial block measuring 40 by 65 feet, built in 1880 and leased to the International Order of Odd Fellows in 1893. Originally serving as a theater, meeting hall, music facility, and specialty store, it became the only two-story building in Hampton's retail district and was recognized as a well-preserved example of Nebraska's nineteenth-century opera house architecture. The building's cultural significance waned as nearby Aurora and Grand Island attracted entertainment-seekers with the advent of automobile travel. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 for its contributions to performing arts, entertainment, recreation, and social history.
