This historic commercial building in Albemarle, North Carolina, was constructed between 1907 and 1908 as a 2½-story brick structure in the Colonial Revival style, featuring a distinctive parapet front and standing-seam metal roof. Originally housing an opera house on its upper floors with street-level storefronts, the building underwent significant modernization in 1939 when its ground-floor facades were remodeled with black Carrara glass panels, plate glass windows, and chromium fittings in the Art Moderne style—a striking layering of two distinct architectural periods. The front was restored in 1990, and the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995 as part of the Downtown Albemarle Historic District.
