The Newberry Opera House in Newberry, South Carolina is a French Gothic structure that originally combined civic and cultural functions under one roof. Completed in the 19th century, its first floor housed town government offices, a jail, and the fire company, while the upper floor served as a theater for touring companies and performers. The building later adapted to show films until 1952, after which it fell into disuse. Beginning in 1998, it underwent comprehensive restoration and received an addition to accommodate full theatrical productions, returning it to active use as a live-performance venue. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it continues to host touring artists, theater companies, and local organizations.
