Located at 421–425 Seaside Avenue in Waikiki, the Cooper Apartments is a 1939 pre-war garden court building designed by the Honolulu firm Dahl & Conrad. Built during the Great Depression, this historic apartment house synthesizes Streamline Moderne with emerging tropical modern aesthetics, incorporating Asian and South American vernacular influences. Its distinctive design features white masonry walls, a low-pitched hipped roof with overhanging eaves, large sliding windows with horizontal panes, and a characteristic stepped scalloped front wall, all articulated with modest art deco-Asian decorative elements. Listed on both the Hawaii Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places since 2017, the building exemplifies Honolulu's sophisticated interwar adaptation of modernism to its island context.
