The Dafo Temple, or Great Buddha Temple, is a Buddhist temple in Zhangye, Gansu, China, renowned for its monumental reclining Buddha statue. Cast in clay around 1100 during the Western Xia period, the Buddha measures thirty-five metres in length and is reputedly the largest reclining Buddha clay statue in China. Built in traditional Chinese architectural style, the temple has borne several names throughout its history, including the Kasyapa Buddha Temple, Bojue Temple, Hongren Temple, and Reclining Buddha Temple, before adopting its present name meaning "Great Buddha." Following a comprehensive restoration in 2005–06, the temple has become a major attraction drawing thousands of visitors annually. It holds the status of a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level.
