The Daily News Building is a 145-meter Art Deco skyscraper at 220 East 42nd Street in Midtown East Manhattan, designed by Raymond Hood and John Mead Howells and completed in 1930. The structure comprises a 36-story central tower with setbacks on upper floors, a 14-story printing plant on 41st Street, and an 18-story annex (completed in 1960 by Harrison & Abramovitz). Its distinctive facade features vertically divided window bays separated by white-brick sections and brick spandrel panels, while the interior showcases a monumental carved-granite entrance on 42nd Street leading to a rotunda lobby with a rotating painted globe. Though initially receiving mixed reviews for its utilitarian aesthetic, the building is now designated a National Historic Landmark with its exterior and lobby recognized as New York City landmarks. The Daily News occupied the building from 1930 until relocating entirely in 1995; it has since passed through several owners.
