The Hearst Tower occupies the southwest corner of 57th Street and Eighth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, serving as world headquarters for Hearst Communications. This 182-meter, 46-story structure comprises two distinct sections: the base is the Hearst Magazine Building, a stone-clad Art Deco structure completed in 1928 by architects Joseph Urban and George B. Post & Sons, featuring six sculptural pylons along its Eighth Avenue entrance; above it rises a modern tower addition designed by Norman Foster and completed in 2006. The addition's signature feature is a glass-and-metal diagrid façade—a diagonal grid pattern that functions simultaneously as the building's structural system. The original office interiors were replaced with an atrium during construction. The tower achieved certification as a green building under the LEED program, reflecting contemporary environmental standards applied to this hybrid of Art Deco heritage and high-tech modernism.
