Tower 49 is a modern office skyscraper completed in 1985 in Midtown Manhattan, occupying a prominent lot with frontage on both 48th and 49th Streets between Fifth and Madison Avenues. Designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, the 187-meter building features a distinctive "simple crystalline form" composed of two chamfer-cornered masses joined by a central service core and clad in blue-tinted mirror glass. The building's lot configuration, with offset street frontages roughly the width of a Manhattan brownstone on each side, reflects the irregular urban geometry it navigates. Tower 49 houses tenants including the Major League Baseball Players Association and Axis Communications, and is notable for being one of the few buildings to have a registered trademark symbol as part of its official name.
