Located at 10 North Spencer Street in Lexington, Illinois, the David Hyatt Van Dolah House—locally known as The Castle—is a Queen Anne style residence built in 1898 for a prominent local landowner and French horse importer and broker. Designed by architect George H. Miller and his partner James E. Fisher, the house exemplifies the Queen Anne idiom through its dramatic composition: a large round turret anchors one corner, opposite a substantial stepped gable, while a wraparound porch wraps the facade. Distinctive brickwork patterns clad the exterior, replacing the ornamental woodwork typical of Queen Anne homes. The hipped roof is further animated by cross gables, a conical turret cap, and multiple pinnacles and spires. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.
