Located at 209 Linden Street in Waltham, Massachusetts, the Dunbar–Stearns House is a 2½-story wood-frame dwelling that exemplifies the architectural tastes of two distinct periods. Built around 1846 by Peter Dunbar, the house originally displayed Greek Revival character, featuring a fully pedimented gable and a single-story columned porch that wrapped around the building. In 1892, Joseph Stearns purchased the property and undertook a comprehensive remodeling that transformed the structure into the Queen Anne style it retains today. The renovation added a turret to the front facade, enlarged the sides by incorporating the former side porticos, and covered the pedimented gable with decorative shingle work, while interior modifications were equally extensive. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, the house stands as a tangible record of evolving architectural preferences in late-nineteenth-century New England.
