Built in Eagle Grove, Iowa, and dedicated in 1903, this Beaux-Arts library was designed by the Des Moines firm Smith & Gage and funded by a $10,000 Carnegie Corporation grant approved in 1902. The brick structure features a distinctive conical-roofed entrance pavilion fronted by four engaged Ionic columns. The library originated from a 1901 advertising campaign by a Des Moines insurance company that donated 250 books to the town; these were initially housed in the Masonic Hall before the dedicated building was erected. After the public library relocated to a larger facility, the original building was repurposed as the Eagle Grove Historical Museum. The structure was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
