The Public Library of Des Moines, a Beaux-Arts landmark completed in 1903 in downtown Iowa's capital, was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and later became a contributing property within the Civic Center Historic District in 1988. The building served as a library until 2006, when it transitioned to house the Norman E. Borlaug World Food Prize Hall of Laureates.
