The East-Azerbaijan Provincial Palace in central Tabriz stands as the principal office of Iran's provincial governor, layered with centuries of political history. Originally built during the Safavid era as Aali Qapou under the supervision of Najaf Qoli Khan when Tabriz served as the Iranian capital, the palace later housed the crown prince during the Qajar dynasty and underwent reconstruction under Naser al-Din Shah, when it was renamed Shams ol-Emareh. Following the Constitutional Revolution, it became the seat of provincial governance. The structure's present form dates to the early twentieth century: a devastating fire in 1933 and subsequent flood destroyed the original building, and Governor Ali Mansur subsequently demolished the remaining portions and oversaw construction of the new edifice in Pahlavi architectural style. Today, portions of the palace remain open to public visitors as a cultural and governmental landmark.
