Located beside the Blue Mosque in Tabriz, northwestern Iran, the Azerbaijan Museum was established in April 1958 and designed by André Godard in the Pahlavi architectural style. The oldest museum in northwestern Iran, it comprises three major halls, a side yard, offices, and a library housing over 2,500 volumes on history, archaeology, art, and Iranian culture. The collection spans the full chronological arc of Iranian history, drawing on archaeological excavations throughout Iranian Azerbaijan and featuring artworks and sculptures of national significance. As a repository of material culture from across the country, it ranks among Iran's most important museums and holds the status of Iranian National Heritage.
