Exhibition Place is a 197-acre publicly owned fairground in Toronto, Ontario, situated on the Lake Ontario shoreline just west of downtown. Built in the Art Deco style, the complex comprises exhibit and trade centres, theatres, music buildings, monuments, parkland, and sports facilities. The district hosts year-round exhibitions, trade shows, and sporting events, most notably the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE)—held from mid-August through Labour Day—which expands the site to 260 acres and draws visitors with agricultural exhibits, midway rides, concerts, and the Canadian International Air Show. Five buildings on the grounds, including the Fire Hall/Police Station, Government Building, Horticulture Building, Music Building, and Press Building, were designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1988. The site's structures date from the 1700s to the present day, reflecting its evolution from military use to one of North America's largest and most prominent fairs.
