The Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto occupies 45,000 square metres on Dundas Street West in the Grange Park neighbourhood, making it one of the largest art museums in North America. Established in 1900 as the Art Museum of Toronto and renamed in 1966, the museum acquired the historic Grange building in 1911 and expanded incrementally throughout the twentieth century. Early expansions by Darling and Pearson (1918–1935) were followed by major renovations by John C. Parkin (1974–1977), Barton Myers and KPMB Architects (1993), and Frank Gehry (2004–2008), whose work introduced postmodern architectural elements. The museum houses over 120,000 works spanning Canadian, First Nations, Inuit, African, European, and Oceanic art, alongside exhibition galleries, artist studios, performance spaces, and archival facilities.
