The Fairfield County Courthouse stands at 172 Golden Hill Street in downtown Bridgeport, Connecticut, where it has served the judiciary since its completion in 1888. Designed by architect Warren R. Briggs in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, the building is constructed of brick and exemplifies the robust, rounded-arch aesthetic characteristic of that architectural movement. Also known as the Court of Common Pleas and Geographical Area Courthouse No. 2 at Bridgeport, the structure was recognized for its historical significance when listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It continues to function as an active courthouse, hearing all but the most serious criminal cases.
