The Basilica of Vitruvius, a civil basilica in the Roman city of Fanum Fortunae (modern Fano, in the Marche region of Italy), is the only known building designed and constructed by the renowned Roman architect and theorist Vitruvius. Built around 50 CE in the Augustan colony, the basilica was documented by Vitruvius himself in Book V of his architectural treatise *De architectura*. Long sought without success by archaeologists, its remains were identified in January 2026 beneath Piazza Andrea Costa in central Fano, marking direct archaeological evidence of Vitruvius's sole surviving work.
