Located at 700 22nd Street in Rock Island, Illinois, this former First Church of Christ, Scientist exemplifies Palladian architecture as designed by Chicago architect William C. Jones in 1914–1915. The brick exterior is sheathed in Bedford limestone and features a striking front portico supported by six two-story columns with egg-and-dart capitals. The building's most distinctive feature is its double-dome system: an outer dome encloses an inner dome separated by space for lighting and maintenance, the interior composed of approximately 8,000 colored fish-scale glass panes mounted on a wooden frame—a design Jones had pioneered a year earlier in his 1913 Christian Science church in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Designated a Rock Island Landmark in 1993 and a contributing property to the Broadway Historic District (added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998), it stands as the only Palladian building in that district and the second church structure erected by the local congregation.
