The First Unitarian Church, located on Cincinnati's northern side, is a Richardsonian Romanesque structure designed by James W. McLaughlin and completed in 1889. The congregation itself dates to the early nineteenth century, surviving multiple divisions and reunifications throughout that era. The building gained prominence as a place of worship for prominent Cincinnati families, notably the Tafs, among them William Howard Taft, who would become President of the United States. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it remains an important example of late-nineteenth-century ecclesiastical architecture in the city.
