Designed by Schultze and Weaver and completed in 1925, the Freedom Tower is a 78-meter Mediterranean Revival skyscraper located at 600 Biscayne Boulevard on Miami Dade College's Wolfson Campus in Miami, Florida. Originally built as the Miami News and Metropolis Building, it gained historical significance as a processing center for Cuban refugees fleeing communist Cuba following the 1959 Cuban Revolution, a role that earned it designation as a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 2008. Today the tower serves as a contemporary art museum and cultural center for Miami Dade College. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979, the building remains accessible via the Miami Metrorail and Metromover transit systems.
