Located at the north corner of the Tuileries Gardens beside the Place de la Concorde in Paris's 1st arrondissement, the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume is an arts centre dedicated to modern and postmodern photography and media. Built in 1909 by architect Melchior Viraut in the Second Empire style, the building originally served as a real tennis court. In 2004, the institution underwent a significant transformation when the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume merged with the Centre national de la photographie and Patrimoine Photographique to form the Association Jeu de Paume, establishing its current focus on contemporary photographic practice.
