The Garden Theatre was a major Manhattan playhouse designed by the prominent architectural firm McKim, Mead & White and completed in 1890 on Madison Avenue at 27th Street. Opening on September 27, 1890, as part of the second Madison Square Garden complex, it initially served as a prestigious Broadway venue for two decades. As fashionable theatre gradually migrated northward to Times Square, the Garden Theatre adapted its programming to include German and Yiddish theatre, motion pictures, lectures, and meetings of trade and political organizations before its demolition in 1925.
